About IP Addresses

An IP address is a numeric identifier assigned to any device connected to the internet. What this tool shows is your public (global) IP address — the address that identifies your connection (such as your router) as seen from the internet.

Devices on your home network, like your computer or phone, are each assigned a private IP address (such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x). These are only used within your local network and aren't visible from the internet — every device sharing the same Wi-Fi will show the same public IP address here.

IPv4 addresses are written in the familiar "XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" format and have been in use for decades. IPv6 is a newer standard created to address IPv4's limited address space, represented as a longer string of hexadecimal characters. Depending on your connection, you may see one, the other, or both.

※ If you're connecting through a proxy or VPN, the IP address shown here reflects that connection rather than your original one.
